Biography
Suhas Roy (1936–2016) was a distinguished Indian artist known for his ethereal and romanticized depictions of the female form. A graduate of the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship, Kolkata (1958), he furthered his studies in graphic art and murals in Paris through a French government exchange program. Roy was a key member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Kolkata, and served as the principal of the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship before becoming a revered faculty member at Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan. His dreamlike compositions, infused with mysticism and sensuality, explored themes of fantasy and reality. With exhibitions spanning the USA, Japan, France, and across India, Roy received numerous accolades, including awards from AIFACS and the Birla Academy of Art and Culture. He remained an influential figure in Indian contemporary art until his passing in 2016.
