Overview
Balaji Ponna (born in 1980) is an acclaimed artist for his detailed canvases and smaller works on paper may seem undemanding at first. He holds a B.F.A. (Gold Medal) from Andhra University and an M.F.A. from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. A recipient of the H.R.D. National Scholarship for Young Artists (2004–05), Ponna has exhibited widely in India and internationally. His notable solo exhibitions include Looking is Not Seeing at The Guild, Mumbai, and Black Smoke at Bose Pacia, Kolkata. He has participated in prestigious group shows such as Contemporary Exoticism at Studio La Città, Verona, Art Celebrates 2010 curated by Rupika Chawla, and Are We Like This Only? at Vadehra Art Gallery, Delhi. Ponna’s works have also been showcased at the France Print Biennial and Art Basel. His art reflects a unique perspective, engaging deeply with contemporary themes and visual storytelling.
