Sujata Achrekar
Sujata Achrekar (b. 1968) is a Mumbai-based artist known for her evocative figurative paintings that explore themes of spirituality and introspection. A graduate of L.S. Raheja School of Art, she later pursued a Diploma in Art Education at J.J. School of Art, Mumbai.
Achrekar’s works often depict Brahmin priests and young Brahmacharis, set against pilgrimage sites and Sanskrit verses, blending traditional manuscript imagery with contemporary expressions. Her signature earthy palette, combined with textural techniques like scratching and layering, creates a meditative depth in her canvases. She has held three solo exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, and participated in numerous group shows in India and internationally. Recognized with awards from the Maharashtra State and Bombay Art Society, she was also honored by NGMA at the Women Artist Camp in 2005.
