Tanmay Santra
Tanmay Santra (b. 1969, West Bengal) is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, and text-based explorations rooted in memory, land, and cultural history. He holds a B.Sc. from the University of Calcutta, a B.V.A. from The Indian College of Arts & Draftsmanship (RBU), and an M.F.A. in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan (2002). Tanmay is a recipient of the Junior Fellowship from the Government of India, the Artist Dinkar Thopate Award, and the Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation City Award (Hyderabad).
His artistic inquiries often engage with shifting geographies, lived experiences, and socio-cultural narratives, articulated through subtle, layered visual languages. Tanmay has held solo exhibitions including Inheriting the Earth (SSVAD, 2012) and Domicile-Domain-Dominion(Goethe-Zentrum, 2012). He has participated in numerous notable group shows across India and abroad, such as Whispering Rocks (Hyderabad, 2025), Journey-3 (Bangladesh, 2024), Faces of Bengal (2022), Time Warp (Chennai, 2021), and Shifting Realities (New Delhi, 2017).
Beyond exhibitions, Tanmay actively contributes to workshops, public art initiatives, and art education. His writings, illustrations, and critical reflections have appeared in several Bengali magazines and online platforms. He lives and works in Hyderabad, continually expanding his practice through research, teaching, and collaborative projects.
