Biography

Born in Malda, West Bengal, in 1979, Pradiptaa Chakroborty is a contemporary artist whose practice is deeply rooted in storytelling, memory, and the rich cultural traditions of Bengal. He received his training in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and later specialized in Graphic Arts at the renowned Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan.


A recipient of both the National Scholarship and Merit Scholarship from Kala Bhavana, Chakroborty has been exhibiting his work since 2002 through numerous solo and group exhibitions across India and internationally. His artistic language draws inspiration from literature, poetry, folk narratives, and the vibrant tradition of Bengali street theatre, weaving together imagery that is both evocative and deeply personal. The influence of his mentors, the legendary K.G. Subramanyan and celebrated figurative artist Jogen Chowdhury, is reflected in his nuanced approach to form, narrative, and visual expression.


Over the years, Chakroborty’s works have found place in several prestigious private and institutional collections in India and abroad. His collectors include Twinkle Khanna, Shashi Tharoor, Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi, Kalki Koechlin, Ila Arun, and numerous collectors across the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dubai. His works are also part of the collections of the Graphics Department, Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, and Saga Art College, Japan.


Pradiptaa Chakroborty currently lives and works in Haryana, India.
