Biography

Ajay Zharotia (b. 28 March 1968) is a New Delhi-based contemporary artist whose practice explores mythology, symbolism, and the psychological dimensions of human experience through expressive figurative painting. A graduate of the College of Art, New Delhi, he works primarily in acrylic on canvas, developing a distinctive visual language that draws upon Indian mythological narratives while engaging with contemporary ideas of identity, memory, and transformation. Characterised by vibrant colour, dynamic compositions, and layered symbolism, his paintings create evocative spaces that move fluidly between the real and the imagined. Over the years, Zharotia has presented solo and group exhibitions across India and has participated in numerous art camps and collaborative projects. His practice reflects a sustained engagement with the relationship between tradition and modernity, where mythology becomes a lens through which to examine contemporary life. His works are represented in significant private collections and continue to contribute to the evolving discourse of contemporary Indian art.
