Akhilesh Verma
Akhilesh Verma (b. 1956, Indore, Madhya Pradesh) is an Indian contemporary artist based in Bhopal whose practice is deeply inspired by the folk and tribal traditions of central India. He earned a Diploma in Fine Arts in Indore and has developed a distinctive visual language that combines rhythmic forms, vibrant colour, and symbolic imagery with a contemporary sensibility. Drawing inspiration from the cultural landscape of Madhya Pradesh, his paintings reflect an enduring engagement with memory, mythology, and the poetic rhythms of everyday life. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, Verma has presented numerous solo and group exhibitions across India and internationally, including in Singapore, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Russia, and the United States. A recipient of several prestigious honours, including the Raza Foundation Award and the Government of India's Senior Fellowship, his works are represented in significant public and private collections in India and abroad.
