Krishnal Fulwala
Krishnal Fulwala (b. 1992, Surat, Gujarat) is a contemporary artist based in Surat. He completed his BVA in Painting in 2015 and MVA in Painting in 2017 from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara.
Fulwala’s practice explores architecture, history, memory and the changing relationship between cultural landscapes and contemporary life. His works often employ architectural structures and layered paper to construct spaces that suggest fragments of histories and narratives. Through the accumulation of layers, forms and architectural elements, he creates a visual language that considers the relationship between the internal and external, the remembered and the disappearing.
His work has been exhibited in several group exhibitions across India, including at Nine Fish Art Gallery, Mumbai; Art Centrix Space, Delhi; Rukshaan Art, Mumbai; Gallery Ark, Vadodara; Kanoria Gallery for Arts, Ahmedabad; and Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad. He participated in the Fading Environments, Fading Cultures exhibition at Nine Fish Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2017, which examined fading histories and cultures and the loss of inherited cultural memory.
Fulwala was a recipient of the Nasreen Mohamedi Scholarship and the Ministry of Culture Scholarship to Young Artists. He has undertaken artist residencies at Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad, and Nine Fish Art Gallery, Mumbai. He is an Assistant Professor at Uka Tarsadia University, Bardoli, and lives and works in Surat, Gujarat.
