Biography

Midhun Gopi (b. 1989, India) is a contemporary artist whose practice explores personal narratives, history, memory and the idea of home. His works bring together imagined landscapes, archival references and fragments of lived experience, creating layered compositions that blur the boundaries between reality and fiction. Drawing on journeys, movement and cultural histories, he explores how places and memories shape identity and belonging.

Gopi completed his BFA in Painting from the Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur, University of Calicut, in 2010, and his MFA in Painting from the SN School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad, in 2012. He subsequently earned a postgraduate diploma in Modern and Contemporary Indian Art and Curatorial Studies from Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum in 2020, and an MA in Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture from the University of Westminster, London, in 2023.

His solo exhibitions include Lethe: Poetry of Hidden Rivers at Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad (2022), and VIA, a travelling exhibition presented in Bordeaux, Amsterdam, London and New Delhi (2023-25). His selected group exhibitions include Alchemy of Memories at Kalakriti Art Gallery, Making Spaces at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, Cloak and Dagger: India’s Fictional Times at the Zuzāns Collection, Riga, and Chromatic Reveries at the Nehru Centre, London.

Gopi received the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Award for Art Students in 2010 and the Art Cabbage Prize in 2024. His works are held in collections including Zuzeum Art Centre, Riga; the High Commission of India, London; and private collections nationally and internationally.
