Simrin Mehra Agrawal
Simrin Mehra Agarwal (b. 1979, Kolkata) is a multidisciplinary artist, holds a BFA and MFA from the University of Delhi and further studied sculpture at Central Saint Martins, London. Her practice spans drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and installation, exploring nature, growth, regeneration and the processes of decay and transformation.
Agarwal’s work often examines the relationship between the natural and the man-made, particularly the ways in which nature reclaims spaces and objects shaped by human intervention, conflict and neglect. Her recent practice has drawn on her experience as a technical diver, documenting submerged war machines and wrecks and exploring their transformation into sites of organic growth and renewal.
She has received the French Government Scholarship and Residency in Paris, the Nokia Arts Award Asia Pacific, the Sailoz Award for Excellence and the Gold Medal for Fine Arts from the University of Delhi. She has also been a resident at the Cultural Foundation and Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi, and was a finalist for the Richard Mille Art Prize at Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Her work has been exhibited internationally at institutions and galleries including Louvre Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Art Museum, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi’s In the Studio programme, Bhau Daji Lad Museum, and in exhibitions across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
