Bolgum Nagesh Goud

Born in 1965, Bolgum Nagesh Goud is a gold medalist from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, where he completed his degree in Fine Arts. 

Nagesh Goud's works are deeply rooted in regional literature and mythology. Drawing inspiration from local textile traditions such as Kalamkari and Paithani, Goud borrows from traditional craft techniques and familiar symbols to create visual narratives inspired by age-old stories from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

Goud's paintings often feature bold, brightly coloured faces that recall the leather puppets of Andhra Pradesh, where he hails from. Each figure is adorned with intricate illustrations of mythological characters and scenes. Having experimented with different mediums, from acrylic and watercolours to oil pastels and ink, Goud expertly layers his canvases to present a unique interpretation of classical myths and their protagonists.

Alongside his paintings, Goud also works extensively in sculpture, extending his distinctive visual language into three-dimensional forms. His sculptural works reflect a similar engagement with mythology, symbolism and regional traditions, while exploring materiality and form in a different dimension.

Nagesh Goud has participated in numerous exhibitions and artists' camps across India and abroad. He was awarded by the Hyderabad Art Society in 2010, as well as by JNTU between 1989 and 1991, and was ‘Highly Commended’ by the Lalit Kala Samiti, Siddipet, in 1987. His works are part of several important private collections.
