Overview
Sumonto Chawdhury was born in Murshidabad district of West Bengal in 1979. After finishing his school in Murshidabad, he joined Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan to pursue a bachelors’ degree in Fine Arts. In 2004 he completed his BFA in Painting with a first class degree from Kala Bhavana. In the same year he came to Hyderabad for further studies. In 2006, he finished his Masters of Fine arts in Printmaking from Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad. After that he was working as assistant artist, under the guidance of the eminent Indian artist Padmasree K. Laxma Goud. 
 
Sumanto Chowdhury held his first solo show in2008 at Space art Gallery, Hyderabad. Till date the artist has held eight solo shows in Hyderabad and Chennai from 2008 to 2017. He has participated in several group shows in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad , Kolkata, Goa and Gwalior. He has received the National Award (Junior Category) by South Zone Cultural Center, Nagpur in 2015, “The emerging Artist Award” by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation in 2015 and an award from Aranya Art Foundation in 2006.
