Biography

A. Rajeshwara Rao (b. 1960, Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh) is a Hyderabad-based contemporary artist whose paintings explore the complexities of modern life through richly layered figurative narratives. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Andhra University, Waltair, in 1983 and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Hyderabad in 1990. Drawing inspiration from everyday life, Rao's works examine themes of aspiration, identity, consumer culture, and social transformation through a distinctive blend of wit, satire, and empathy. Characterised by vibrant colour, meticulous detail, and dynamic compositions, his paintings blur the boundaries between reality and imagination while offering nuanced observations on contemporary society. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Rao has presented major solo exhibitions at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, Gallery Espace, New Delhi, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad, and other leading galleries across India. His works are represented in significant public and private collections in India and abroad.
