Dominique Paulin

Dominique Paulin is a French artist and physician whose life and practice have developed at the intersection of medicine, art and a sustained curiosity about the human condition and the natural world. Born into a family with a strong artistic legacy, she grew up surrounded by art while pursuing a career in medicine. Although self-taught as an artist, Paulin has painted for many years and began exhibiting her work publicly in 2008.

Her practice has evolved through an intuitive engagement with painting, material and gesture. Her works often reflect on human existence, vulnerability, transformation and the relationship between humanity and the environment. Over the years, she has explored subjects ranging from natural catastrophe and ecological uncertainty to light, dreams, desire and metamorphosis. Her paintings are largely non-figurative, allowing colour, texture and movement to suggest rather than describe these ideas.

Paulin has exhibited extensively in France and internationally. Her exhibitions include presentations at Espace Pierre Cardin and Artcurial in Paris, the Shanghai Doland Museum of Modern Art, and the European Cultural Centre at Palazzo Mora, Venice, as part of the 2022 Venice Biennale. Her work has also been presented through projects associated with Nuit Blanche in Paris and the Bonjour India Festival in New Delhi.

Her association with India dates back to 2013, when she participated in the Bonjour India Festival in New Delhi. In 2015, she returned to India for an artist residency in Hyderabad in partnership with the Embassy of France in India and the Krishnakriti Foundation, followed by a solo exhibition at Kalakriti Art Gallery. This period marked an important chapter in her engagement with the Indian art context.

Paulin continues to develop a deeply personal practice that draws on observation, experience and an intuitive response to the world around her, bringing together the sensibilities of an artist and the perspective of a physician.
