Gopinath Subbanna
Born in 1970, Gopinath is a Bengaluru-based sculptor whose practice is distinguished by its exploration of form, materiality, and spatial relationships. He completed his Post-Graduation in Sculpture from the College of Fine Arts, Bangalore University, and later obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda.
Over the years, Gopinath has established a significant presence in the Indian contemporary art scene through both solo and group exhibitions. His notable solo exhibitions include a presentation organized by the RPG Group at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2007), and a solo exhibition at Hotel Fortune Landmark, Ahmedabad (1999). His works have been exhibited at prominent venues such as India Art Fair, New Delhi; Time & Space Gallery, Bengaluru; Mahua Art Gallery, Bengaluru; Gallery Sara Arakkal, Bengaluru; Threshold Art Gallery, New Delhi; and Sharan Apparao Gallery, Chennai, among others.
A regular participant in national and international sculpture symposiums, residencies, and art camps, Gopinath has represented India in major artistic exchanges across the United States, China, Egypt, and South Korea. His notable participations include the International Sculpture Symposium in Nashua City, USA; the International Sculpture Symposium in Cairo; the International Sculpture Symposium in Bronze, Tongling City, China; and the Artist Residency at Clayarch Gimhae Museum, South Korea.
His achievements have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, at the 51st National Exhibition (2009), the H.K. Kejriwal Young Artist Award, and the Special Jury Award at the Harmony Show, Mumbai. He continues to live and work in Bengaluru.
