Shanthamani Muddaiah
Shanthamani Muddaiah (b. 1967, Mysore, Karnataka) is a Bengaluru-based artist whose practice has evolved over several decades across sculpture, installation, painting, photography and multimedia. She studied painting at CAVA, Mysore University, and completed her Master in Fine Arts from M.S. University, Baroda, followed by a specialised paper-making course in Glasgow, Scotland. Her work has been exhibited extensively in India and internationally, including at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Seychelles Biennale, Art Brussels, and India Art Fair. Her solo exhibitions include presentations at the Suzanne Tarasieve Gallery, Paris; Galerie Hélène Lamarque, Miami; Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai; and Sumukha Gallery, Bengaluru.
Muddaiah has exhibited at significant institutions including the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and Mumbai; Museum of Art & Photography, Bengaluru; Tel Aviv Museum of Art; Kunst Centret Silkeborg Bad, Denmark; and Bihar Museum, Patna. She has undertaken residencies at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, and Settle Stories, Yorkshire, UK, and has been involved in teaching and academic programmes in Bengaluru. Her honours include the Shilpa Kala State Academy Award, Karnataka, the Shree Devaraja Urs Award, Senior and National Junior Fellowships from the Ministry of Culture, the India-Sri Lanka Foundation Artistic Collaboration Grant, and the Charles Wallace Scholarship. Her works are held in public, corporate and private collections in India, Europe and the United States.
