Biography
George Oommen is an Indian-born, Boston-based artist and architect whose practice spans more than four decades. Born in Munnar, Kerala, he studied architecture in India before pursuing further education in Mexico and the United States. A Harvard-educated architect, Oommen has worked with Harvard University for over three decades while maintaining a distinguished parallel career as a painter. His work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the United States, India, and internationally, including a major retrospective at the Whistler House Museum of Art, Massachusetts (2009), exhibitions at Harvard University, Art Heritage, New Delhi, Agora Gallery, New York, and ARKA Gallery, Vladivostok, in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate. His paintings have been widely reviewed in publications including The Hindu, Artscope, Hindustan Times, and The New York Times.
Inspired by the landscapes and waterways of Kerala, Oommen's paintings explore memory, light, and the spiritual resonance of place through richly layered abstract compositions that evoke both the physical and the contemplative.
