Chandra Bhattacharjee

Chandra Bhattacharjee (born 18 November 1961, Patuli, Bardhaman, West Bengal) is a distinguished contemporary Indian painter known for his evocative, textured compositions inspired by rural landscapes, tribal life, and the rhythms of nature. He graduated with First Class honours from the Indian College of Art and Draughtsmanship, Kolkata, in 1986 and was awarded the Gold Medal by Rabindra Bharati University for excellence in Fine Arts. Before becoming a full-time artist, he worked as a billboard painter and graphic designer, experiences that shaped his visual sensibility. Bhattacharjee's paintings are celebrated for their earthy palettes, layered surfaces, and dreamlike imagery, reflecting the quiet poetry of village life and the enduring relationship between people and the land. His works have been exhibited extensively in India and abroad, and are part of significant public and private collections. He lives and works in Kolkata.
