Indic Civilization has always mapped its most precious and valuable insights into life and its meaning through drawings and sacred diagrams. Many of these spiritual and religious revelations take the form of cosmic maps: esoteric way-finding visuals which are created for us to find our way on the earthly plane, but to map the routes which may accelerate our inward journey towards finding our connection with the divine. While maps are two dimensional representations of this journey of ascension, Sacred Mandals can and often translated into three dimensional geometries which represent movement in space and in the fourth dimension through time. For this project, Kalakriti Archives, which is one of the largest private repositories of archival quality sacred maps and diagrams in India, collaborates with architect and origani artist Ankon Mitra, who is known for his passion for research into all things geometric and folded. Together they embark on this journey of translation and juxtaposition of complex philosophies embedded in the 2D visuals and the 3D geometries merging and melding them into a universe both immersive and mind- bending.
