Overview
Sumanto Chowdhury (Born in  1979, West Bengal) is an acclaimed contemporary artist known for his dynamic exploration of rural, urban, and suburban landscapes. A graduate of Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, and with a Master's in Fine Arts (Graphic) from S.N. School, Hyderabad, Chowdhury masterfully blends mediums, incorporating painting, printmaking, etchings, and three-dimensional works. His art draws inspiration from architectural forms and Indian miniature paintings, showcasing intricate details both in interiors and exteriors. Notably, his vibrant use of colors—pink, blue, red, yellow, and emerald green—creates symbolic narratives that evoke a sense of place, often devoid of human figures yet rich with their implied presence. Chowdhury’s works captivate viewers with expansive landscapes and panoramic skies, bridging nature and habitation seamlessly. Recognized for his talent, he was awarded the Prafulla Art Foundation Emerging Artist Award in 2015, Mumbai, and has showcased his work in multiple group and solo exhibitions across India.
