Asim Waqif
Asim Waqif (b. 1978, Hyderabad) is a New Delhi-based artist whose interdisciplinary practice is grounded in his early training in architecture at the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi, where he graduated in 2000. Following an early career as an art director in film and television and subsequent work in independent video and documentary filmmaking, Waqif
developed an artistic practice spanning sculpture, installation, public art, video and photography.
His work has been presented at major international exhibitions and institutions, including the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (2026), Islamic Arts Biennale, Jeddah (2025), Chicago Architecture Biennial (2023), Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2022), Jeju Biennale (2017), 8th Asia Pacific Triennial, Brisbane (2015), Marrakech Biennale (2014) and Changwon Sculpture Biennale (2014). His institutional exhibitions include the Hayward
Gallery, London; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Queens Museum, New York; Vancouver Art Gallery and Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh. Waqif has undertaken residencies at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center, Italy, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, USA, and SAM Art Projects, Paris, and was a Visiting Scholar at the Rhode Island School of Design.
He has also taught at the School of Planning and Architecture and Ambedkar University, Delhi.
