Meenakshi Nihalani
Meenakshi Nihalani is an active visual artist, sculptor from Bombay, India. She has received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sculpture from the Sir J.J. School of Fine Arts, Mumbai. She has recently done her residency at the Hampi Art lab by JSW Foundation to support her practice. Also she has worked in Berlin Artist Residency, Germany, representing the Agrarian Culture and social and psychological impact of British Colonialism on the Indian Farmers emphasizing the Absurdism of politics and power on mankind. She has been awarded Discover for Emerging Artist by Prameya Art Foundation, New Delhi.
She has received the Scholarship Residency by Fundaziun Nairs in Switzerland, 2019. And also received a Scholarship by Honorary Indian consulate in Stuttgart in 2018 and 2019. She has attended her Artist residency in Berlin, Netherlands, Zurich, Belgium and India.
She has also received the 2017 Lord Mayo Memorial Award for her Sculpture during her Annual exhibition in Sir J.J School of Art. Her practice blends traditional techniques of drawing and stitching with contemporary themes, focusing on feminist perspectives and societal struggles. The artist currently works from Mumbai, Goa, Baroda, India.
