Moumita Basak
Moumita Basak (West-Bengal) earned her BFA (2020) and MFA (2022) in Painting from Govt. College of Art and Craft, Calcutta University. Basak’s is a community-oriented, textile based practice which engages with the lives and experiences of women, memories, and familiar surroundings. She likes to work with various mediums like, textile medium, waste cloth, hand stitching (chain and kantha stitch), machine embroidery, tea and coffee tint and unique prints.
Her works have been shown at several exhibitions, some recent ones include, ‘Barbil Art Project’ at Barbil, Odisha, ‘Dream Keepers, at Szydlowski Gallery, Poland (2024), Lateral B(/)inds at Stir gallery, Delhi(2024), ‘Hawa Mein Baat’ at Nandnagari Community Hall, Delhi (2024), ‘Hold the Dandelions, There is no one to be Found’ at Gallery27, Kochi(2024), ‘The – Woven- Path’ at Space118, Mumbai(2024), Richard Saltoun, London(2024) .
She has participated in multiple residencies including KHOJ Peers, Delhi (2022), Emami Arts Program, Kolkata (2021) and IMMERSE, Mumbai (2022-23), Arthshila X Khoj Residency Program (2024). She received Shilpachariya Zainul Abedin Scholarship of GCAC Annual Exhibition (2019), Ajay Bankim Memorial Scholarship of GCAC Annual Exhibition (2021,2022), National Young Artist Scholarship by Ministry of Culture (2020-21), 17th Gold Medal Winner at International Textile Triennial in Central Museum of Textile in Lodz, Poland (2022). She lives and works in Burdwan, West-Bengal, India.
