Basuki Dasgupta
Born and raised in Bishnupur, West Bengal, Basuki Dasgupta’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in the terracotta temples of his childhood. He pursued Fine Arts at Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, under the mentorship of Jogen Chowdhury, completing his postgraduate studies in Mural Painting in 1994.
Dasgupta’s work reimagines Goddess Durga through the lens of everyday Indian women—resilient, hardworking figures balancing multiple roles. His textured canvases and mural-inspired compositions reflect themes of mythology, spirituality, and human relationships.
He has exhibited widely across India, alongside his artistic practice, Dasgupta has taught painting and art history, engaging deeply with students and community-based art projects. His work continues to explore the intricate interplay between tradition and contemporary expression.
